Snail Health Benefits: What Science Says
Snails are often viewed simply as a source of food, but scientists are increasingly studying these small creatures for compounds that could have potential applications in medicine, brain health, skin care and cancer research.
Research has shown that snail mucus, also known as snail slime, contains a complex mixture of proteins, enzymes, peptides, glycoproteins and other bioactive substances. Scientists are investigating these compounds because of their potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and tissue-repair properties.
However, most of the exciting findings are still at the research stage. The results do not mean that eating snails or using snail mucus can cure cancer, prevent dementia or treat other serious diseases.
