Atiku: Tinubu’s Policies Suffocating Local Businesses as Foreign Capital Flees
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has accused the Tinubu administration of worsening economic conditions for Nigerian businesses, citing NGX data showing foreign investors withdrew N779.43 billion between January and July 2026 against N513.36 billion inflows, a net outflow of N266.07 billion.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Atiku said government borrowing had risen 90.5 percent to N24.7 trillion, with credit to government growing four times faster than credit to the private sector. He described the foreign capital exodus as a “confidence verdict on the Tinubu economy.”
Key Points:
Foreign capital flight signals deepening investor distrust in Nigeria’s economy.
Rising government borrowing crowds out businesses from accessing credit.
Entrepreneurs face higher costs, limiting expansion and job creation.
Households bear the burden through rising food and transportation costs.
Policy inconsistency continues to undermine investor confidence and returns.
Atiku’s criticism sharpens the economic debate ahead of 2027. Observers will watch for government responses to address business and investor concerns.
