‘I hereby direct the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu’ – Ejimakor reveals critical part missing in Tinubu’s speech

Counsel to detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor, has described President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day address as a “missed opportunity,” particularly over what he said was the absence of measures to resolve political grievances in the country.

Ejimakor made the observation in a post on X on Thursday while reflecting on Tinubu’s October 1, 2026 broadcast to Nigerians.

According to the lawyer, he had expected the President to use the occasion of Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary to announce measures concerning Kanu, political prisoners and activist Omoyele Sowore, as well as open dialogue on demands for a referendum.
