The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that two Nigerians, Taiwo Fakunle and James Nwankwo, were killed in separate incidents in South Africa on September 4 and 5. Fakunle was murdered at his residence in Kensington, Johannesburg, while Nwankwo was reportedly killed during interrogation by South African Police Service officers in Somerset, Cape Town.
The ministry expressed concern over law enforcement involvement and South Africa’s refusal to sign a memorandum on an early warning mechanism. The National Assembly suspended legislative engagements with South Africa on Friday.
