During an interview on Channels Television on Friday, September 25, 2026, Shehu Sani, former senator representing Kaduna Central, commented on the reported agitation calling for President Bola Tinubu to leave office.
Sani said Nigerians have the constitutional right to express their views, organize themselves, and pursue causes they believe in, including campaigns calling for a president to remain in or leave office. He, however, questioned the timing and source of the current agitation.
The former senator noted that some of the issues being raised by those calling for Tinubu to leave office include insecurity and poverty. He then compared those concerns with the situation under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sani further pointed out that insecurity and poverty, which he said were among the concerns being cited in the current agitation, also existed during Buhari’s administration.
According to him, “Well, Nigeria is a democracy, and people have the right to express their opinion, and they also have the right to assemble themselves and pursue any course that they believe is something they should do. So there’s nothing wrong with people assembling themselves, saying that Tinubu must go or Tinubu must stay. It’s within the armpit of democracy for them to do that, but we ask questions.
