According to a report by The Daily Post on Friday, September 25, 2026, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has defended his 2020 comments concerning the management of $155 million during the tenure of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
Otti addressed the issue during an interview with Arise Television, explaining that the statement, dated June 8, 2020, was made to illustrate that public officials could be prudent when managing government resources.
According to the governor, the comments being circulated were not new and were based on an account of events that occurred several years ago.
“They are referring to what I wrote in 2020. I think that was June 8, 2020. I was using it to prove that it’s still possible for people to be prudent in government,” Otti said.
He explained that, at the time, he was the chief executive officer of a bank and had discussions concerning funds that were to be kept in naira.
