A relationship expert has said that the rise in sexual activity often recorded during the holiday season is driven more by stress, emotional pressure and coping mechanisms than genuine sexual desire.
In a statement sent to PUNCH Healthwise, a licensed sex therapist, Dr Michael Salas, said clinical observations and behavioural trends show that the festive period amplifies existing emotional issues, pushing many people to use intimacy as a form of stress relief rather than connection.
“Holidays amplify everything that already exists beneath the surface. For many people, sex becomes a way to cope with anxiety, loneliness or emotional overload rather than a reflection of genuine desire,” Salas said.
