Minister of State for Health Dr Iziaq Salako disclosed this in Abuja during the 2026 World Suicide Prevention Day commemoration. He said the matter will be forwarded to the National Assembly for legislative process.
Salako described the reform as both a legal and public health measure, arguing that people experiencing mental health crises need care rather than punishment. The National Mental Health Act 2021 and related policies guide the reform.
