NAFDAC Director-General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye has linked the indiscriminate consumption of alcohol to banditry in Nigeria, stating that alcohol destroys the brain, kidneys and liver while encouraging criminal behaviour.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, Adeyeye defended the agency’s ban on alcohol in sachets and PET bottles under 200ml, describing the products as a “monster” that had become uncontrollable.
She said three major companies were shut down for three weeks and some people were arrested as part of enforcement efforts, despite pushback from manufacturers.
