Tension Mounts as Sowore’s Trial Resumes at Federal High Court

Abuja, Nigeria — The political and legal spotlight will once again fall on activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore as his trial resumes tomorrow at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The case, officially listed as Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) vs Omoyele Sowore, was instituted under the authority of the Inspector General of Police, whom Sowore’s supporters have repeatedly described as “illegal” and lacking constitutional legitimacy.

This fresh hearing comes amid mounting national attention, with Sowore’s legal battles expanding beyond the federal government case. The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly issued an ultimatum relating to Sowore’s separate suit — Sowore vs Bola Ahmed Tinubu — where the activist is pursuing charges tied to allegations of “criminal” conduct.

Observers note that this week will be crucial as the DSS ultimatum winds down, raising concerns about possible escalations between state institutions and the outspoken activist.

Civil society groups and pro-democracy campaigners are expected to be present at the court sitting, continuing their demand for judicial independence, constitutional reforms, and what they describe as an end to “political persecution.”

Sowore, founder of Sahara Reporters and a vocal critic of successive administrations, has consistently framed his trials as a battle between entrenched political interests and the Nigerian people’s right to justice and truth.

With both courtrooms and the political space heating up, all eyes will be on the Federal High Court tomorrow as the trial unfolds.
