The Nigerian Customs Service has intercepted 204 pump-action rifles at the Tincan Island Port in Lagos, concealed in a container declared as used furniture, refrigerators, solar panels and detergent.
The rifles, which arrived from Turkey on August 16, were discovered on August 18 following an intelligence tip-off. Customs officers worked with arms control experts to reconstruct the MAS 49 Alter Magnum pump-action rifles and spare parts.
The seizure follows a previous interception of 399 rifles at the same port. No arrests of importers have been reported.
